Members of the public and motorists are advised to expect delays to their journey around the Square Mile from 5:00pm on Thursday 12 January due to a pre-planned demonstration at Bank junction.

The United Cabbie Group is planning to organise action that is expected to have a significant effect on traffic in the surrounding areas.

The City of London Police and the Metropolitan Police Service have been engaging with organisers from the Group prior to the event and have also liaised with Transport for London to try to manage disruption on the roads as effectively as possible.

Those who need to travel through Bank junction are encouraged to plan ahead as significant delays are expected between up to 8:00pm.

Provisions have been made to allow access for emergency vehicles, however all other traffic is advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes where possible.

Hotspots

Bank junction will be closed from 4.30pm on Thursday 12 January and delays are expected after the demonstration concludes at 6.30pm. A number of road closures and diversions will be in place, including: Bank junction, Gresham Street, Queen Victoria Street, Moorgate, Threadneedle Street and King William Street.

Superintendent Helen Isaac said: “We recognise that the public, commuters and businesses will be concerned about the impact this event may have for people who regularly use Bank junction. I want to reassure them that we have a full policing plan in place that balances both the rights of protestors with those impacted by the protest.

“Together with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service we have engaged with the organisers and there is a proportionate policing response in place. We will monitor how the situation develops and take action where appropriate. We continue to work with all our partners to ensure that disruption is managed effectively.”
