Data Ribbon Ruins Hot Dates

03 March 2017 | Updated 01 January 1970

The British Airways i360 attraction in Brighton reopened on was Wednesday March 1 after work was carried out to replace a damaged data ribbon.

Visitors had been stranded within the glass pod on Friday Feb 24 evening (the attraction can take 200 people at a time on a 25 minute ride) that rises 138 metres up the 163 metre tower.

Originally the operators had expected a weekend repair and to be up and running by Monday. However, parts could not be delivered until the start of the week and the repair and testing took a further two days.

“Specialist parts will arrived on site on Monday," a British Airways spokesperson told ThisWeekinFM at the start of the week. "Following a period of testing, we hope to re-open on Wednesday. We have or are contacting all customers who have booked tickets for Monday and Tuesday and will be offering them alternative 'flights' or refunds.”

The original MEP services engineer on was Jacobs UK and the pod drive and control system was installed by Pomagalski SAS.

This is not the first time the i360 has broken down - when it launched last in August last year, it broke down three times in five days. Click Here for more.
