It was a busy week for the London Fire Brigade as three major blazes hit parts of the capital - two at recycling plants and one at a paper processing facility?

Dagenham - fire at recycling plant

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a recycling plant in Dagenham on the outskirts of London on Wednesday 27.

The blaze broke out in a metal container used to store shredded foam before it is removed from the site. Approximately 75 tonnes of foam was in the container at the time of the fire and the contents were completely destroyed.

An employee at an adjacent company saw smoke and fire coming from the container and called 999. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Wandsworth recycling centre

Firefighters were still damping down a fire the morning after it broke out at a recycling centre on in Wandsworth on Monday 25 afternoon. Wandsworth is very close to the centre of London and major commuter train routes run through the area.

At the height of the incident 12 fire engines and around 80 firefighters and officers tackled the fire which was affecting around 300 tonnes of domestic waste in the single storey recycling centre. Firefighters finally left the scene at around 2:00pm on Tuesday aftternoon

Station Manager Darren Levett who attended the incident said: "The fire was very visible and produced a lot of smoke which could be seen for miles around. Crews worked hard to contain the fire and as a precaution we advised people to keep their doors and windows closed ."

The Brigade was called at 3:30 on Monday afternoon and the fire was under control by about 1:00am on Tuesday morning. Crews from Wandsworth, Fulham, Tooting, Clapham, Chelsea, Kensington, Battersea, Hammersmith, Soho and Wimbledon fire stations attended the incident

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
