How Different Generations Engage with Technology - Part 3

15 February 2016 | Updated 01 January 1970

NFS Technology Group has added to its interview series with ThisWeekInFM to investigate the technology that supports the multigenerational workplace, including increasing use of mobile and self-service technology.

This video highlights how browser access through mobile devices has grown from 12% in 2012 to today’s 33% and is estimated to pass 50% level from 2018.

The significant growth proves it is an area that organisations cannot ignore and must look to make the mobile experience very good across all system devices, to enhance the transition to a more flexible working environment.

Self-Service is also cited as a fast-growing technology that is being increasingly adopted by workplaces to encourage easy transfer of information and documents between work colleagues.

At the same time, self-service is also seen in the dynamic changes emerging in the workforce, being driven by the younger generations, for example when it comes to meeting room bookings.  Generation Y and Millennials want more control over booking, availability and organising video conferencing, whereas older generations may rely on PA’s to organise this.

Says Luis de Souza, CEO of NFS Technology Group and interviewed: “Mobile and self-service are two important technologies that are rapidly evolving and changing the workforce as we know it today.  Although they both bring their own challenges, the statistics prove that organisations cannot run away from embracing this trend.

“Both mobile and self-service rely on a great user experience for the workforce to be comfortable to use the technology, whether it be for mobiles to access work data or self service to share files. And it can become an area where collaboration can occur between all the generations to encourage more adoption.“

The video series is based on a recent white paper authored by Luis de Souza entitled: The Multigenerational workplace – five insights every CIO needs today.
