MPs Sign-up to Renewable Energy Manifesto

19 August 2013 | Updated 01 January 1970

23 MPs and Peers have pledge to establish the south west of England as a leader in renewable energy and energy efficiency, delivering 34,000 jobs in the sector by 2020 by signing the first ‘renewable energy manifesto’.

Those that signed up at the House of Commons include Sir Nick Harvey, Ben Bradshaw, and Charlotte Leslie. The scheme has been established by renewable energy, not-for-profit Regen SW. (Merlin Hyman, chief executive of Regen SW and Ben Bradshaw MP are pictured above).

The manifesto has set targets to deliver 34,000 high-value jobs in renewable energy.

Ben Bradshaw, Labour MP for Exeter, said: "The south west of England has the opportunity to play a leading role in the development of the renewable energy sector. We have some of the best natural resources in the UK and this brings with it the potential for huge economic growth, more jobs, and increased energy security for householders.

"In order to achieve this it is imperative that the government backs the transition towards a low-carbon economy and puts a consistent regulatory framework in place. I'm fully behind the south west manifesto and will be supporting Regen SWs efforts."

The Manifesto is supported by Local Enterprise Partnerships from the West of England, Cornwall and the Isles of Scily, Dorset, and the Heart of South West.
