SPIE Catcher - Trios Branding Nabs Biggest Bidder

07 November 2016 | Updated 01 January 1970

SPIE has bought the Trios Group. The move that has been on the cards for several months sees SPIE extending its Technical Facility Management business in the UK with the addition of Trios Total Property Solutions, Trios Secure, Trios Compliance and Trios Facilities.

A collection of long-established businesses (first established 1919), Trios adopted its now market-recognisable branding some three years ago - choosing ThisWeekinFM as its major promotions partner. March 2016 revenue was circa £61 million. The firm is particularly strong in the retail sector and has won some notable contracts in the past two years that harness its wide-ranging mobile resources. Trios employs approximately 690 people spread across five regional offices in Birmingham, Enfield, Cirencester, Basingstoke and Warrington.

SPIE operates in the electrical & mechanical engineering, HVAC services, energy and communication systems markets across Europe.  James Thoden van Velzen, CEO of SPIE UK, issued the following in a press statement: “This acquisition is the next step forward for SPIE’s Technical Facility Management business. We are eager to develop our reach. With the mobile capabilities Trios provides, we are setting ourselves on a path of significant growth in the sector. We want to welcome Trios Group’s employees to SPIE UK and express how much we are looking forward to working with them; together we can progress towards a combined vision of developing a business that offers quality of service, safety and value for money.”

Sandra Harris, Trios Group’s MD, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our employees, the company and our customers.”

SPIE UK employs more than 3,000 people from a network of regional offices throughout the UK. It has 38,000 employees working from close to 600 sites in 38 countries with revenues of Euro 5.3 billion.
