Read Full ArticleA new gas infrastructure system contract for Gatwick Airport has been awarded to SPIE which has been appointed principal contractor to carry out the design and installation.
The £1million contract, managed by Gatwick Airport, will take place in the South Terminal and involves SPIE providing the new utility infrastructure in preparation to replace the South Terminal’s high temperature central boiler system.
The project is the first part of current programme by Gatwick aimed at decentralising the existing high and medium temperature hot water systems that exist terminal-wide. The current centrally located technology will be changed to a localised low temperature hot water system, designed to improve further energy efficiency.
SPIE’s involvement in the South Terminal renovations includes the design and installation of the incoming utility gas supply, complete with new gas meters and associated distribution pipework. At nearly 800m in length, the new pipe installation system will span the entire roof area of the terminal and ground floor area to serve 14 new individual boiler rooms.
“We are pleased to be working with SPIE once again and selected them for this project because of the extensive experience and high quality work they have demonstrated on similar infrastructure replacement projects,” explained Jon Arthurs, Project Manage, Gatwick Airport. “We look forward to working with SPIE to deliver further energy savings at Gatwick.”
