Supercharging Your Annual Leave for 2022

Supercharging Your Annual Leave for 2022
13 April 2022 | Updated 27 April 2022

With an extra Bank Holiday this year, strategically arranging your annual leave means you can maximise your holiday allowance for 2022.

As The Queen marks seventy years on the throne this year, the May Bank Holiday Weekend will be moved to Thursday 2 June and an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3 June will mean a four-day weekend.

Ahead of the Early May Bank holiday, what are the best dates to book off around the other upcoming Bank Holidays?

2022 Bank Holiday Hacks

Here are the UK’s upcoming public holidays for 2022:

  • Monday,  2 May
  • Thursday,  2 June
  • Friday, 3 June – Platinum Jubilee
  • Monday,  29 August
  • Wednesday, 30 November – St Andrew’s Day (Scotland)
  • Monday, 26 December – Boxing Day
  • Tuesday, 27 December

And here are the best ways to make the most of these dates:

  • Take annual leave on 30 and 31 May, and 1 June – you will be on holiday for nine consecutive days.
  • Or book 30 and 31 May, and 1, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 June off – this will result in 16 consecutive holiday days.
  • Consider using four days of annual leave to book off the week commencing 29 August – meaning you’ll get nine days off work in exchange for just four days of annual leave.
  • For an extended Christmas break, book 28, 29, 30  December off and you’ll get ten consecutive days off work.
