The Living Wage is a voluntary rate of pay which is based on the recognition that the national minimum wage (currently £6.50) does not pay enough for people to meet a basic quality of life. New Living Wage rates have been announced of £9.15 in London (up from £8.80) and £7.85 nationally (up from £7.65). BIFM has launched a new tool to educate its members and the wider industry about the world of facilities management.

The new FM Glossary is a resource for the facilities management community to look up meanings and definitions of regularly used words, acronyms and phrases. The FM glossary includes standard facilities management terms that don't change that much and new ones that evolve based on what is happening within the FM industry. It is therefore intended as an evolving resource and BIFM would be glad to hear from members and other FM professionals if you they have any content they would like to be added to the glossary.

ISS Research Shows Strong Employee Engagement Improves Performance

Research by ISS Facility Services found strong employee engagement helped to improve the performance of a National Health Service (NHS) hospital client as staff are more inclined to 'go the extra mile'. The resulting customer satisfaction increase saw the hospital move up the NHS league table. Additional benefits include reduction in employee sick leave and improved productivity.
