In late 2016, Bilfinger sold its Building & Facility division to EQT Partners (an equity firm renowned for buying ISS as a relatively minor operation and selling once it had become the behemouth it is today). Operations throughout the world have rebranded Apleona with many observers questioning the jettisoning of the well recognised Bilfinger tag. (Previous parent company has ridden a financial crisis and has re-focused on its core business and alternative development plans.)
The discomfort over the naming (particularly as acquisitions had already casued branding issues) has led to the UK being amongst the last take on Apleona.
2200 UK people now operate under the Apleona HSG brand.
James Thoden van Velzen
July 1 2017 will see James Thoden van Velzen join Apleona HSG as CEO with responsibility for day-to-day operations within the UK. As CEO of SPIE UK, Thoden van Velzen was responsible for overseeing major projects as the business grew from c£200m to c£600m turnover in just seven years.
He joins the existing Apleona HSG Limited board of Pinder Singh Hujan, Executive Chairman; Dirk Van Breda, CFO & Commercial Director; Simon Harris, Chief Operating Officer FM and David Eastlake, Chief Operating Officer Workspace. After a phased handover of responsibilities, Jeff Smith, Interim CEO, will revert to his prior role as CEO of the Apleona Ireland business.
Services delivered by Apleona Facilities Management and Apleona Workspace include car parking, catering, cleaning, technical services, grounds maintenance, waste, pest control, front of house, security, consultancy, interior fit-out. A customer portfolio including corporates, banks, retail & leisure destinations, insurance companies and public sector organisations.
