Canada Water Dockside Scheme to Go Ahead

Canada Water Dockside Scheme to Go Ahead

A 1.5 million sq ft commercial scheme in Canada Water has been approved by Southwark Council.

Co-designed by BIG and HWKN Architecture, the 4.5-acre site will be one of London’s largest developments in the Canada Water regeneration area.

Developer Art-Invest’s Canada Water Dockside will become a workspace hub offering Grade A buildings with leisure spaces along the dock’s waterfront, surrounded by 130 acres of open green space. Over 89,000 sq ft of waterside terraces is also included.

Andy Young, Partner at BIG said: “The proposed design of building A1 was conceived as an antidote to the traditional idea of air-conditioned glass boxes as a place of work. Natural ventilation, garden terraces and a spectacular ground floor inviting cyclists and pedestrians equally, are all incorporated into a building that takes the form of five sustainable buildings stacked on top of each other, with a twist.”

The new scheme will sit alongside British Land’s 53-acre Canada Water masterplan, featuring two million sq ft of workspace, 3,000 new homes, one million sq ft of retail, leisure, entertainment, education and community space and 12 acres of new open space, including a 3.5-acre park, a new Town Square and the first new high street in London for 100 years.
