Giving the Great Flood the Sack

14 January 2016 | Updated 01 January 1970

Essential to any clean-up are black sacks and they are required in their 1,000s in Carlisle following the recent devastating floods.

BPI Recycled Products has teamed up with Bunzl Cleaning and Hygiene Supplies to donate and distribute free of charge 43,000 capacity sacks to the Carlisle Floods SOS Appeal. The sacks will be distributed to homeowners who have become victims of the recent floods.

The heavy duty black sacks are from the BPI Recycled Products’ Green Sack range and are manufactured from 100% recycled products at UK facilities, helping to reduce waste to landfill.  The range it claimed to have an ultra-low carbon footprint and importantly for the flood victims, it is said to be ‘super tear resistant’, holding up to the Cleaning and Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA) standard 15kg.

“Cumbria farmers collect more farm waste for BPI Recycled Products than any other county,” said Lorcan Mekitarian, Commercial Director, BPI Recycled Products.  “We have a very good relationship with the region and so it is only right that we show our support.  The clean-up is not a nice job and if we can make it a little easier for homeowners by supplying heavy duty sacks, to not only throw damaged items away in but also to help keep their possessions dry over the next few months, then that is the least we can do.”
