The Facilities Event and sister exhibitions at Birmingham NEC saw good steady footfall with a mix of subject matter in seminar sessions while exhibitors worked well. There was certainly something for all interests.

Access to the various sections flowed well into neighboring exhibitions, with ample catering areas, which supported the constant level of networking and lead conversations evident throughout the day.

There were a range of provoking subjects sessions in the ‘The Facilities Hub’ theatre. Particularly the session on ‘Who’s responsible for Energy management in your Building?’ chaired by Cathy Hayward of Magenta Associates with a panel that included Colin Willis of Cambridge Maintenance Services, Mark Tew from CAFM Explorer, Michael Kenny, a senior consultant at LCMB and Geoff Prudence, the Director/Chairman, Property, FM and Building Services Groups. Key output messages were that data and technology will continue to evolve but we need to develop the skills of future FMs so they are best placed to manage energy in the future.

The Security Event

There were lots of products and services in the security section, ranging from physical protection and prevention to high tech monitoring and analysis.

The Health & Safety Event

The biggest attendance was at The Health & Safety Event conference theatre for a discussion on the post-Grenfell management of fire regulations.
