Read Full ArticleThe BIFM has been obliged to issue a correction to its list of 2013 Award winners from 14 October 2013 – and could face a double-whammy of embarrassment if fudging of the truth is confirmed. ThisWeekinFM understands that negotiations have been going on between the organisation that should have won the ‘FM Excellence in a Major Project’ category, the organisation that was awarded it in error and the BIFM who have been struggling to save face.
Statements that would have allowed the BIFM to graciously accept it had made an error now seem to have been abandoned in favour of some sleight of hand. The BIFM has correctly awarded the honour to VINCI Facilities (for its outstanding management of two new-build hospitals in Merseyside); whilst ’creating’ the ‘BIFM Board Social and Economic Impact Award’ for COMET Advisory in compensation for it having to hand back the Major Project award it received in error.
A search of the BIFM website for the BIFM Board Social and Economic Impact Award reveals no results, no entrants and no previous mention of such an Award. It would seem, at first sight, the category did not exist until tonight (29 October, Tuesday).
Calls to the BIFM over the past week to clarify the situation have gone unanswered.
An announcement on the Finalists of the BIFM Awards 2013, still appearing on the BIFM website, from 20 August is published below in full (the 4th category entry makes interesting reading):
