The Rail Freight Group Annual Awards recognise successes in an increasingly demanding rail freight market. In the Support Services category, Carillion Rail won jointly with Cooper Specialised Handling.  

Carillion provides services for buildings and the infrastructure market. Rail freight projects management and delivery are significant capabilities for the firm. The award submission centred on two key strengths: Savings to the overall Strategic Freight Network budget; and physical delivery on a range of projects including track improvements, freight diversionary routes, station improvements and re-modeling.

Bill Free, Head of Business Development for Carillion Rail, said: “The design and delivery of freight related projects forms a significant part of our rail capabilities, so to win this award is something we are all proud of. The success also recognises Carillion’s record of achieving cost savings for the Strategic Freight Network budget. Recently, for example, we were able to complete the gauge clearance of Southampton Tunnel a full year ahead of schedule which made a huge contribution to the overall £13 million of cost savings on the Southampton area project.”
