A huge shift in American energy procurement policy that embraces fossil fuels could alter short-to-medium term power options on the international energy market due to the influence of America on western trade.

ThisWeekinFM Guest Editor, Daniel Lynn, has found a variety of news segments from separate regions that demonstrates an active energy transition despite US energy policy upheaval that promotes oil as well as natural gas usage and distribution.


UK & Ireland

Irish state-owned electrical grid transmission operator – EirGrid, has announced that they have identified a programme for over €1billion of works to be contracted that will assist in the delivery of an Irish offshore electricity grid. 

French multinational electric company Engie has acquired 4 solar projects and 3 onshore wind farms located in England and Wales from German asset manager group MEAG.  

Ireland has set a new record for national solar energy generation and usage. 39% of sourced electricity derived from renewable solar power during March (2025).


Europe

UK investment group Legal & General alongside Irish renewable group NTR Clean Power have raised €607 million in financial commitments. The fund will focus on European clean power opportunities that help to bolster energy security. 

CIP (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners) has announced that their latest fund has attracted more than €12 billion of private investment. Funds will be used to target solar and battery energy projects across the European, North America and Asia Pacific regions.

Asia-Pacific

Spanish multinational Acconia Energia has been granted AUS$453 million to construct the Aldoga solar facility located in Queensland.  The project will consist of 820,000 solar PV panels and will be operational during 2026. 

Japan’s new Abukama 147MW wind farm has begun commercial operations. This facility will contribute towards Japan’s aim of achieving a 40%-50% renewable contribution towards domestic energy usage by 2040.

Global Power Generation – a subsidiary of Spanish multinational power organization Naturgy Group, has energised Western Australia’s first solar and energy storage hybrid installation, located 150 km east of Perth. The Cunderin project is estimated to have cost €172 million and consists of a 128MW solar facility and a 55MW battery energy storage system. Enough energy will be generated to annually supply 55,000 households with clean energy.


USA

Israel based clean power group - Enlight Renewable Energy, has acquired $773 million of financial funds to construct the Country Acres project located in California. The site will consist of a 403MW solar facility and an accompanying 688MWh battery energy storage site. The project will provide enough annual power for 80,000 households and will be operational during 2026.

American renewable power company Deriva Energy has begun commercial operations at their 100MW Wildflower solar project located in Mississippi.

American renewable company Vesper Energy has begun operations at The Hornet Solar project located in Texas. 1.36 million solar PV panels will rest along 6 square miles of land whilst delivering 600MW of clean power to local communities.
