Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse

The Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse

It’s all our business.

The Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse (EIDA) is a network of nearly 1,200 employers, of all sizes, from all sectors, that are taking action on domestic abuse. For too long, domestic abuse has been viewed as a private matter that happens in the home, behind closed doors. Yet the workplace can be the only place of safety and respite for many victims or survivors of domestic abuse.  Employers have an important role to play in raising awareness and supporting their employees who are impacted.

EIDA’s Vision: Every employer taking action on domestic abuse.

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone of any age, gender, race, sexual orientation, religion or background. It can encompass, but is not limited to, psychological, physical, sexual, economic and emotional abuse. The statistics are shocking :

As well as harming the victim / survivor’s mental, physical and emotional health, domestic abuse can have an adverse impact on staff morale more broadly. The cost of domestic abuse to business is estimated at £1.9 billion through decreased productivity, time off work, lost wages and sick pay.
