- 11 Government Office Buildings in London to Close in Next Five Years
21 May 2025
As part of plans to relocate London-based civil service jobs to regional hubs across the UK, the government will close 11 London office buildings over the next five years.
This includes 102 Petty France, one of the largest government buildings in London, and 39 Victoria Street, home to The Department of Health and Social Care.
By shedding London-based real estate, the government says it will save £94 million annually by 2032.
Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Pat McFadden has written to all government departments requiring them to relocate key roles to new regional campuses in Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff, Glasgow, Darlington, Newcastle and Tyneside, Sheffield, Bristol, Edinburgh, Belfast and York.
There will also be three major new regional campuses. The first two are the Government Digital and AI Innovation Campus in Manchester and the Energy Campus in Aberdeen,, the new HQ for Great British Energy.
Overall, the number of London-based civil service roles will be reduced by 12,000.
