124 People Killed in Work-Related Incidents in 2024-25
14 July 2025

The Health and Safety Executive has published its annual workplace fatality statistics for 2024-2025, revealing that 124 people died in work-related incidents.

The data covers the period from April 2024 to March 2025, and shows a decrease in fatalities from the previous 12-month period (138 deaths). The most common causes of fatal injuries are falls from height (35), being struck by a moving object (18), and being trapped by something collapsing or overturning (17).

Construction, agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors account for the greatest number of workers killed in fatal accidents each year.

The figures relate to work-related incidents only and do not include deaths from occupational diseases or diseases arising from occupational exposures, such as mesothelioma, a cancer caused by past exposure to asbestos.

HSE’s Chief Executive Sarah Albon said: “Despite the stability in numbers, we cannot accept that fatal accidents are an inevitable part of working life. We are encouraged by the long-term trend but urge against complacency on workplace safety.

“Our practical and proportionate guidance is available for free on our website, and further support is available if needed.”
