Several businesses and properties have been vandalised following racist and Islamophobic protests that turned violent. The unrest began the day after three children were murdered in Southport. False claims on social media followed that someone who had arrived in the UK "illegally" was responsible for the murder.
The Lush cosmetics store in Hull was one of the businesses affected. Windows were smashed with products littered around the store and outside. Police warned staff to leave early when it was safe to do so, meaning no one was injured.
UK & Ireland Property Director for Lush Cosmetics Ellen Peters posted on LinkedIn to share her gratitude to their store team, volunteers and suppliers who helped with the cleanup:
The Chief Executive at Hull City Council Matt Jukes also shared images of their street team cleaning up the city:
The Amazing @Hullccnews Streetscene team got on with the clean up in Hull as soon as we had clearance from our colleagues at @Humberbeat.
