Just Eat for Business has collated its order data to reveal the most popular office lunch trends for the first six months of 2024.

Communal Eating

As office occupancy ebbs and flows due to hybrid working, it seems lunch habits when in the office are rooted in community and social interaction. Buffets and platters are more popular than ever, with these orders increasing by 21 per cent since the same period in 2023.

Midweek Meal Peaks

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays remain the most popular days for office food deliveries, accounting for 72% of total orders.

Vegan Meal Popularity

According to the Plant Based Food Alliance UK, over two million Britons are vegans and vegetarians, and a quarter of the population now describe themselves as flexitarians. Reflecting these broader sustainable eating habits, vegan and vegetarian orders have risen by 15 per cent over the last year.

Healthier Choices

Just Eat has also noted a surge in healthier food options, with restaurant partners such as Salad Kitchen receiving a 44 per cent growth in orders on between January - July 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

Top 5 Cuisines

The top 5 cuisines include:

  1. American 37 per cent
  2. Italian 21 per cent
  3. Mediterranean 15 per cent
  4. Japanese 14 per cent
  5. Thai 13 per cent

Matt Ephgrave, Managing Director at Just Eat for Business: “Our latest trends data clearly shows the vital role that food continues to play in the workplace, not just for sustenance but as a means to improve employee wellbeing and social dynamics.”
