Women In FM Network Launches Action Learning Set Pilot
21 October 2026
Imagine having a small group of people outside your own organisation who know you, understand the world you work in and can offer a fresh perspective when you need it.
That’s part of the thinking behind a new Action Learning Set pilot from the IWFM Women in FM Network. It offers a different way to build a professional network – through regular conversations, shared challenges and relationships that develop over time.
Rather than simply meeting new contacts, participants will have the opportunity to build a trusted network of peers from across the profession. People with different experiences and perspectives who can help you think through challenges, share learning and broaden your view beyond your own organisation.
Whether you’re navigating a career move, managing competing priorities, building confidence in a new role or simply looking to widen your professional circle, the pilot offers a chance to make meaningful connections while learning together.
What is Action Learning?
Action Learning brings a small group together regularly in a structured and confidential environment. In each session, a participant can bring a real workplace challenge. Rather than giving advice, the group uses questions and reflection to help them explore different perspectives, consider options and decide what to do next.
It is a simple model that has been used by organisations around the world for decades to turn shared experience into learning and action.
For the Women in FM Network, it offers something more: the opportunity to create your own network across organisations – people you know, trust and can hopefully continue to draw on long after the programme ends.
How to Get Involved
Join the Women in FM Network next week, on Tuesday 27 October, for an introductory webinar on exploring the new Action Learning Set pilot designed to support women across the workplace and facilities management profession.
Speakers include Laura Birnbaum MRICS, FIWFM, Assistant Director at London Fire Brigade. As the Head of Property at the London Fire Brigade, her role includes the strategic development of real estate scenarios, executing approved projects and transactions, and the delivery of FM.
The session will explain:
What Action Learning is and how it works.
What participants can expect from an Action Learning Set.
How the Women in FM Network pilot will operate.
The benefits of peer learning and professional support networks.
The first series is open to both IWFM members and non-members.
