Charity Boxing Night - An Absolute Knockout

By Neil Peckham

Charity Boxing Night - An Absolute Knockout

The evening of Thursday May 10th saw almost three hundred FM and industry related professionals gather at the Sheraton Grand Park Lane London Hotel for a night of fine dining, good wine and entertainment.

Joined by Champions old and new, it was also an excellent opportunity for industry big hitters to meet their sporting equivalents. Asinia 'The Ghost' Byfield, who has been named as the challenger for the British Super-Welterweight Title was there, alongside Mickey Cantwell, British Flyweight Champion in 1996 (and some may recognise him from the Hollywood Blockbuster, Snatch).  We also had British & European Champion James Cook MBE.

Charity

The event is not just designed to bring industry professionals together to have a bit of fun and make some new connections.  It is also designed to raise awareness on how Boxing Futures, supported by Marcello Renda, uses non-contact Boxercise to give physical and mental wellbeing and empowerment to young victims of crime and abuse, those at risk of offending and other socially and economically disadvantaged groups.

Spurred on

Ex-England, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea Footballer Graham Roberts kindly donated a Tottenham Hotspur shirt signed by striker Harry Kane and manager Mauricio Pochettino in aid of raising funds to help the purchase of an incubator for his local hospital.  The shirt raised a staggering £1,000 at auction.

Charity benefits

The generosity and support of our Guests was outstanding £thousands were raised overall - and we are still receiving contributions.  Every single penny donated is being shared between Boxing Futures and Graham Robert’s personal goal, both of which are extremely worthwhile causes.

On the box

The main attraction was four bouts of professional boxing.  This was not a white collar or amateur affair but a serious line-up of pro-boxers taking to the ring.  And they did not hold back! A lot of heavy punches were thrown and received with the crowd getting involved and shouting for their favourites.

Bookings

The ThisWeekinFM Team trust those that attended had an exciting time and look forward to seeing you again next time around.
