BESA Wins Engagement Award for Building Safety Act

The Building Engineering Services Association has been recognised for its approach to helping its members understand the Building Safety Act.

At the Trade Association Forum Awards, The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) won the Best Member Engagement Award.

Since the act received Royal Assent and took effect in 2023, it has been an ongoing challenge for the building service industry to ensure its understanding and compliance with new responsibilities named under the act.

The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) has provided legislative updates and advice about the act to its members through its dedicated advisory group, webinars, online modules and workshops.

The association’s football-themed Play it Safe campaign was praised for its creativity, using football analogies to highlight  specific competence requirements and types of evidence for each member of the supply chain.

Accepting the award on behalf of BESA, Rachel Davidson, Director of Specialist Knowledge said: "Winning this award is a fantastic recognition of BESA’s unwavering commitment to supporting our members through the Building Safety Act. The industry needed clarity, guidance, and leadership – and we delivered. This initiative has not only helped our members be aware of their roles and responsibilities but has also set a new benchmark for member engagement in the sector.

“Thank you to the BESA Building Safety Act Advisory Group, our members, the team and industry partners for making this a success. We are looking forward to our next initiative, educating clients through our ‘Compliant Client’ coming soon.”
