Biosafety Tech Company Achieves World Changing Idea Award

Biosafety Tech Company Achieves World Changing Idea Award
25 May 2022

An IoT-enabled disinfection technology company has been named in Fast Company's 2022 World Changing Ideas Awards.

R-Zero's intelligent biosafety platform continuously collects data about how a space is being used, and uses that data to quantify risk. Their products then emit UV light to inactivate harmful microorganisms in the air and on surfaces in seconds, even while people are present.

The company is financially backed by Mayo Clinic and venture capital firms DBL Partners, World Innovation Lab, and SOSV/HAX.

UV Systems

The COVID-19 pandemic meant that facilities managers and building owners were under pressure to deliver solutions to make it safe for people to reoccupy public spaces, and technologies that use UV irradiation were prevalent at this time. UV light works to disrupt the RNA of bacteria, breaking the strands and stopping it from replicating.

The platform is being implemented across many industries, including education, hospitality, healthcare, senior care and in offices and workspaces. Within the sports industry, R-Zero’s germicidal UV system is being used for teams across the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLS.

Fast Company's 2022 World Changing Ideas Awards

R-Zero’s approach to healthier buildings led to the company being named among the list of honourees in Fast Company's 2022 World Changing Ideas Awards.

The awards honour clean technology, innovative corporate initiatives, brave new designs for cities and buildings, and other works that support the growth of positive social innovation, as well as tackle social inequality, climate change, and public health crises.

"R-Zero is proud to be at the forefront of this new era; we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to re-engineer the built environment to promote and prioritise human health and productivity. The buildings where we spend 90 per cent of our lives should not only be smart and sustainable, but they should actively work to keep us healthy too – that's exactly what our technology exists to do," said Grant Morgan, Co-Founder and CEO of R-Zero.

"R-Zero is honoured to receive this distinction from Fast Company for our innovation as we focus on making a difference today with an eye toward a healthier world tomorrow."

Now in its sixth year, the World-Changing Ideas Awards showcase 39 winners, 350 finalists, and more than 600 honourable mentions—with climate, social justice, and AI and data among the most popular categories.
