FM Consultant Lucy Jeynes has been appointed Chair of Governors at South & City College Birmingham, making her the first woman to hold the role.
Lucy said she will use this opportunity to advocate for facilities management and the wider built environment sector as a career choice for the next generation of technical and professional talent.
South & City College Birmingham is the largest general further education college in the West Midlands, and was recently named the most improved FE college in the country and is celebrating its best exam results in a decade.
“Businesses across the FM sector offer a significant number of apprenticeship roles, yet it is often an overlooked industry by young people. I’d like to change that."
–Lucy Jeynes
Lucy has over 25 years of experience in advising on all aspects of FM service delivery and strategy, and has led FM improvement programmes for the Natural History Museum, British Medical Association, Ravensbourne University, University of Sussex, Bicester Village and the National Museum of Oman.
“I first became involved with the college because I am passionate about the opportunities that education and skills bring to people of all ages and backgrounds, said Lucy. SCCB plays a vital role in Birmingham’s business and community landscape – not least of all the FM and built environment sectors – and offers each learner a place to flourish.
“Businesses across the FM sector offer a significant number of apprenticeship roles, yet it is often an overlooked industry by young people. I’d like to change that.
“Facilities management and the wider built environment sector are critical to the UK’s productivity and sustainability ambitions. Colleges like SCCB are where the next generation of technical and professional talent begins that journey.
“We have an essential role in advocating for the skills, funding, and partnerships that will sustain that pipeline, and with a fantastic board beside me, I’m confident we can deliver lasting change.”
