A new 25,000 capacity stadium in Luton town centre has been approved by the borough council.
Luton Town Football Club’s development company, 2020 Developments, submitted a detailed planning application for a state-of-the-art, multi-functional venue. The new stadium will hold 25,000 people, which is significantly larger than the current Kenilworth Road ground, which can accommodate about 10,000 spectators.
The design features halo floodlighting, inspired by a straw boater hat, which is a nod to Luton's history in hat manufacturing and the team’s nickname “The Hatters”.

Situated at Power Court in Luton town centre, the site sits within a 20-acre area owned by 2020 Developments. This area will be redeveloped as a new public realm, with 1,200 apartments, retail, leisure, services and community spaces.
As well as the new stadium, the proposal includes a new music venue, with a capacity of 1,800 and a floorspace of up to 2,700 sqm and a new hotel, with a floorspace up to 12,000 sqm, and height of up to 11 storeys (38m) to accommodate for up to 150 hotel rooms. A new West Plaza between the proposed hotel and the stadium will include new open spaces for people to enjoy on non-match days.
