A state-of-the-art concert and live entertainment venue located near Munich International Airport aims to be the first concert venue in Germany to achieve a DGNB Gold certification, a framework for assessing the sustainability of buildings.

The sustainability strategy was developed in collaboration with the German Sustainable Building Council, utilising life cycle-based planning to reduce the carbon footprint during construction. Several thousand solar panels on the roof of the arena and around the site, combined with geothermal district heating, will provide a self-sufficient energy supply.

The result will be a climate-neutral, 20,000-capacity event stadium.

Architects Populous, general planners HENN, and landscape architects Latz+Partner have devised a diamond-shaped exoskeleton design, reflecting the diamond-like shapes of the Bavarian state flag. Spectator seating is arranged in a 270-degree horseshoe with steeply raked seating to enhance the visitor experience.

During the construction phase, Munich Arena is anticipated to deliver a €391 million boost in Gross Value Added (GVA) to the local economy, according to estimates from Deloitte.

Post-opening, the arena is projected to contribute €354 million annually to the city and the surrounding region.
