Hertshten Properties has appointed Mace as the main contractor for the redevelopment of 85 Gracechurch Street, the site where the remains of London’s first Roman Basilica were discovered.
Designed by Woods Bagot, the new commercial building will be adjacent to the Grade II Listed Leadenhall Market and will feature 235,000 sq. ft of office space and a 270-degree terrace.
A ground-floor Public Hall will open directly into Leadenhall Market. The scheme is expected to attract between 1.5 million and 3 million visitors to Leadenhall Market annually.
The site is part of the Roman Forum, set on 2,000-year-old foundations. Remains discovered by the Museum of London Archaeology will be incorporated into a new public exhibition and immersive experience within the new development.
The scheme is predicted to become one of London’s greenest tall buildings, exceeding the environmental standards of both the Greater London Authority and the City of London.
“85 Gracechurch will be a state-of-the-art office building, delivering approximately 235,000 square feet of premium office space alongside a host of extraordinary amenities,” said Ron Hertshten, CEO of Hertshten Properties UK.
“Designed to achieve market-leading environmental performance, the development will set a new benchmark for sustainable office space in the City of London.”
