New Data Centres Coming to Heathrow and South Mimms

New Data Centres Coming to Heathrow and South Mimms

Planning has been submitted for two new data centres in the south-east of England.

A 74-acre site close to Heathrow Airport has been earmarked to house one of the most advanced data centres in Europe totalling 448,000 sq ft of data halls across three floors.

Set within the Slough Availability Zone, the site is owned by Tritax Big Box REIT plc, who has entered into a joint venture with an energy power generator to the site using pre-existing grid connection agreements.

The site has the potential for an initial 107 MW data centre (Phase 1), with a possible second phase adding 40 MW, bringing the total potential to 147 MW.

In Hertsmere, Hertfordshire, just east of South Mimms Services, a data centre which would be one of the largest in Europe is being proposed. The building will provide up to two million square feet of floor space, and could be operational by 2029.

The project has an estimated construction value of approximately £3.75 billion, supporting at least 500 jobs during construction. Once operational, it is expected to create at least 200 permanent local jobs and generate approximately £1.1 billion per annum in Gross Value Added (GVA).
