12 employees from maintenance contractor Novus Property Solutions volunteered to support the recent Joshua Tree Children in Need build for an episode of DIY SOS.
The group, from Novus’ North West region, joined the DIY SOS project to help expand the residential facilities at the Joshua Tree Support Centre, which supports children living with cancer and their families by offering respite and access to play spaces, activities and therapy.
The charity was set up by Dai and Lynda Hill after they found limited support when their son Joshua was diagnosed with leukaemia at five years old. Joshua now helps out at the support centre with personal training sessions for children and teens to encourage them back to fitness after treatment.
Across two full days, the Novus volunteers contributed to landscaping, painting, and site clean-up in efforts to expand the site to provide additional space for the charity to support more children and families.

They were joined by hundreds of tradespeople, other volunteers, and the DIY SOS team, who completed the extension in just ten days.
The project was the focus of a DIY SOS Children in Need special episode broadcast on 13 November 2025.
Susan Nuttall, Director at JSSH, who connected Novus with the project, said: “Volunteering at The Joshua Tree was truly a moving experience. Listening to families share how the charity supported them through their child’s cancer journey made every effort feel meaningful. Knowing that our work will help even more children and families find comfort and hope during such challenging times is incredibly inspiring.”
