Retrofit of 60 Queen Victoria Street to Go Ahead

Retrofit of 60 Queen Victoria Street to Go Ahead

Planning permission has been granted to retrofit a 180,000 sq ft office building in the City of London.

60 Queen Victoria Street was built in the late 1990s and designed by Peter Foggo. The building is known for its striking façade with its pre-patinated bronze and brise soleil screens and was previously partly occupied by HSBC.

The new designs hope to retain the “architectural spirit” of the existing building while substantially improving environmental performance. This will include removing the brise soleil screens on the windows, which reportedly negatively impact the amount of natural light available in the building.

The refurbishment will also feature a reworked ground floor with an enlarged reception area, a new co-working hub and a dedicated cycle entrance. Floorplates are also being reconfigured to create 15,000 sqft of flexible space, the opportunity for outside terraces on each floor, and a new timber rooftop pavilion.

The project will target  BREEAM Outstanding and NABERS 4.5*.

David Ardill, Partner at Sheppard Robson, said: “We treated the idiosyncratic building – which has many enduring qualities – with a great deal of respect, retaining the spirit of the original building while upgrading its performance and tuning the building to ensure it appeals to the demands of the modern tenant.”
