Sodexo to Help Modern Slavery Survivors Into Work

Sodexo to Help Modern Slavery Survivors Into Work

Sodexo has committed to supporting survivors of modern slavery rebuild their lives with long-term employment.

In collaboration with not-for-profit Bright Future Co-op, Sodexo has pledged to provide opportunities for survivors of exploitation to find employment at one of the thousands of workplaces Sodexo serves across the UK & Ireland.

Bright Future offers a national matching service where survivors of modern slavery are partnered with member businesses. The individual is offered a four-week work placement, which if successful, will lead to a non-competitive interview and offer of a permanent role.

Sodexo is the first company in the catering and facilities management services industry to partner with Bright Future. Since it was founded in 2021, Bright Future has helped over 100 survivors find safe employment.

Modern slavery is a global issue and includes trafficking into criminal activities like cannabis farming, sexual exploitation and domestic servitude or forced labour on farms, in construction, cleaning, waste management, shops, bars, nail bars, car washes or manufacturing.

Home Office figures state that there were 9,125 potential victims of modern slavery in 2024, the highest number of referrals since the records began in 2009. 31 per cent of all of these were children.

Many modern slavery victims are trafficked into the UK from overseas, however vulnerable British people are also targeted. 23 per cent of people identified as victims of modern slavery in 2024 were British nationals.

Thomas Williams, Bright Future Co-operative Manager said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Sodexo as a new member of Bright Future. Its commitment to fair hiring and meaningful support will help create genuine pathways into work and lasting stability for people who have experienced exploitation.”
