After the renovation of Bankside and Battersea Power Station, the Lots Road site is the final historic power station along the Thames to be revamped.

The power station was the largest ever constructed when it was built in 1902, and was the first large-scale steel structure in the UK. Its four chimneys were also the tallest in Europe when built. Before being decommissioned in 2002, the station burned 700 tonnes of coal per day to power the London Underground.

Although the building is not listed, it was issued with a special license from English Heritage to allow development whilst preserving its history.

Owner Hutchison Property Group has developed the site into “Powerhouse”, 260 luxury apartments as part of the wider 8.85 acre Chelsea Waterfront masterplan. Two glass residential towers of 37 and 25 storeys and three riverside buildings are arranged around landscaped gardens.  It has a 20-metre swimming pool, spa, a riverfront restaurant, and a fitness centre.
