Two Major Energy Suppliers Cease Trading

Two Major Energy Suppliers Cease Trading
28 January 2021

Green Network Energy and Simplicity Energy have ceased trading as of Wednesday 27 January, Ofgem has announced today.

Green Network Energy has previously supplied energy contracts for micro to medium size businesses.

The two companies, which has collectively over 400,000 customers, will be automatically moved to a new supplier. Those affected should not take any action, aside from a meter reading in preparation for their new supplier.

Philippa Pickford, Director of Retail at Ofgem, said: “Green Network Energy and Simplicity Energy customers do not need to worry, as under our safety net we will make sure your energy supplies are secure and domestic customers’ credit balances are protected.

“Ofgem will now choose a new supplier for you and whilst we are doing this our advice is to wait until we appoint a new supplier and do not switch in the meantime. You can rely on your energy supply as normal. We will update you when we have chosen a new supplier, who will then get in touch about your new tariff.”

It, as yet, remains unclear if business customers are to take the same action.
