Baishakhi Sengupta is a sustainability expert with global technical expertise on sustainability strategy including designing for net-zero, ESG, TCFD, CSR, CDP, Energy (ISO50001) & GHG Management, to name just a few.

Baishakhi holds a Masters in Environmental Management with international work experience in climate change mitigation and sustainability issues.   

A registered Lead Auditor and Practitioner with the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (PIEMA), Baishaki’s experience includes working for the United Nations, manufacturing industries and KPMG.

Her session, “Mapping Climate Policy, Risk Management & Embracing Sustainable Finance to reach Net-Zero” will offer practical guidance and key recommendations on how to:

  • Use TCFD reporting to raise the agenda on Board Fiduciary Duty
  • Managing Climate Risk

Matteo Deidda – Sustainability Manager, Lloyds Banking Group

 

Lloyds Banking Group’s Journey to Net Zero Carbon Operation

Matteo Deidda is a Sustainability Manager with an Engineering background, an MSc in Renewable Energy and Energy and Sustainability Management experience in some of the largest British energy consumers.

Matteo currently works for Lloyds Banking Group where he utilises his knowledge of the energy industry, sustainability management, engagement and technical expertise to deliver the group sustainability ambitions. Matteo has joined Lloyds Banking Group from Vodafone UK, where he supported the business in setting the roadmap to deliver the 2025 sustainability targets, whilst reducing the company energy cost base.

Prior to this, Matteo worked five years for Sainsbury’s, developing and delivering the energy management strategy of the retail and office estate and playing a key role in the achievement of the 2020 carbon reduction targets.

Matteo’s session will share key insights learnt on the  net-zero journey:

 

  • How to define a net-zero pledge and what are the steps to get there
    Timeline, business case building, iterations and analysis, public commitment
  • What are the most successful programmes so far?
    e.g. LED rollout, improved connectivity, continuous optimisation, heating and cooling
  • How to turn current challenges into future opportunities
    investment, site-level approach, climate risk, post-COVID estate uncertainty

 

 

Gillian Brown – Energy Manager, University of Glasgow

 
How Lockdown Has Changed Our Understanding in Energy Management for Buildings

Gillian Brown is responsible and accountable for the optimisation of energy sources and active management of the energy consumption, within the context of the University of Glasgow’s Energy Strategy. Leading in the delivery of an Energy and Metering strategy and associated operating plans for energy infrastructure, supply arrangements, primary heat source plant & equipment, metering and controls.

Gillian has built her career in energy management specialising in the public sector where she has been fortunate enough to work on some large renewable and energy efficiency installations. Whilst working Gillian has been able to add to her academic qualifications in the Energy management field, recently completing her MSc in Carbon and Energy Management. Her current field of research for her PhD is based around the development of positive energy campus estates.

Gillian’s session will examine how energy manages often emphasise the influence of occupant presence and actions on energy use in buildings, and the surprising results when buildings are left vacant over a long period of time.
