The 22,000-person capacity stadium will be the home of the Chicago Fire Football Club, an American professional soccer club that competes in Major League Soccer.
Gensler has created an ambitious design based on the “Chicago School” style, famous for its use of steel frames, masonry cladding and modernist aesthetic.
A brick, steel, and glass façade wraps an interior that’s dedicated to the experience of watching live sport, with an exposed steel canopy over the seating bowl to direct light and crowd noise back to the pitch and a separate supporter section for approximately 2,000 fans on safe-standing bleachers.

The seating positions are dramatically lower and closer to the action than at Chicago Fire FC’s current home at Soldier Field, and will feature a variety of best-in-class hospitality spaces, amenities, and premium seating options across multiple tiers with 50 suites, more than 500 Loge seats, and 3,500 Club seats.
Whilst it’s been designed as a “soccer-specific” stadium, the site can also host rugby matches, concerts, festivals, live performances and corporate events.
The project is being funded by the Club’s Owner and Chair, Joe Mansueto. He said, “I love this city and its architecture,” said Joe Mansueto. “This stadium is adding to Chicago’s iconic skyline, so I want it to look timeless. It will look like it’s always belonged here, but with the modern innovations required for a world-class soccer club.”
The stadium is part of a wider redevelopment called “The 78”, a 62-acre development of retail, offices, entertainment and outdoor recreational spaces located along the Chicago River.
Construction at The 78 is anticipated to begin by the beginning of 2026, and the new stadium is expected to open for the 2028 season.
