Lighting Designer Expands Luminaire Refurbishment Initiative

Lighting Designer Expands Luminaire Refurbishment Initiative
10 January 2024

A UK-based lighting designer and manufacturer is extending its sustainability efforts by offering its “carbon careful” luminaire refurbishing service to other lighting manufacturers.

The FUTURE Designs “Carbon Careful” initiative upgrades luminaire carcasses in commercial buildings with LED technology to extend their lifespan and reduce running costs. This also saves hundreds of tons of mild steel and aluminium. At Imperial College Library, FUTURE Designs’ lighting upgrade plan saved 1.9 tonnes of steel being produced, equal to 3.5 tonnes of carbon.

The company will now bring its initiative to the wider market, actively offering the service to other lighting manufacturers who don't have the facilities and expertise for this process.

David Clements, FUTURE Designs’ Chief Executive said: “This is yet another chapter in the story of our commitment. As the world is faced with a growing necessity to Refurbish, Reuse and Restore, FUTURE Designs is leading the way with the hope that more organisations will follow suit.”
