More than 100 local healthcare support staff have moved into new roles after NHS Property Services took over essential facilities services at ten hospitals and health sites across the South West.
The colleagues, who live and work across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire, provide day‑to‑day services including cleaning, catering, portering and linen – helping keep local hospitals safe, clean and running smoothly for patients and NHS staff.
The services transferred this spring from Great Western Hospitals Foundation Trust, with NHS Property Services placing a strong focus on supporting the local workforce through the change.
Across all ten sites, NHS Property Services worked closely with local teams to make sure colleagues had the right uniforms, technology and support from day one, while keeping healthcare services running without interruption for patients.
At Savernake Hospital, colleagues starting with NHS Property Services were welcomed by familiar faces and new managers, helping ensure the transition felt personal and supported rather than disruptive.
The move follows a year of planning and collaboration with local NHS partners to ensure continuity of service and long‑term value for money. The £4.3 million‑per‑year contract covers Soft Facilities Management services across the region.
The ten sites now supported by NHS Property Services are Chippenham, Savernake, Warminster, Trowbridge, Amesbury, Calne, Salisbury, Wilton, Devizes and Melksham.
With services now live, NHS Property Services will continue working alongside colleagues and local partners to support jobs, strengthen services and help keep healthcare environments safe and welcoming for the communities they serve.
Maria Benitez, Domestic Team Leader at NHS Property Services, said: “Change can be unsettling, especially when you’re doing such important work every single day. We wanted people to feel comfortable, listened to and part of a team straight away. Seeing how quickly everyone has settled in has been really rewarding.”
Richard Mackay, Managing Director for the South Region at NHS Property Services, said: “These colleagues are a vital part of their local hospitals and communities. Our priority has been to recognise the experience they bring, welcome them properly and make sure they feel valued as part of NHS Property Services.”
