David Stevens, Director of Estates & Capital Development at East London NHS Foundation Trust, has been named a UK Construction Week Icon for 2025.
Announced at the Birmingham NEC, David was praised for his technical expertise and inclusive leadership in the facilities management sector.
David has shown his commitment to inclusivity within the building services industry through his chairship of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) LGBTQI Panel, membership of the IHEEM Diversity and Inclusion Working Group and fellowship of both the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM) and the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM).
He is also the first CIBSE Vice President with an estates and facilities bias in 20 years, a significant milestone for the FM sector.
UK Construction Week Icons are individuals who have achieved iconic status through their lasting influence, excellence, and significant contributions in their industry, serving as an inspiration for generations. Previous Icon winners include Gemma Rees Project Director at McLaren Construction Group and Rob Charlton, CEO of Space Group.
David commented: “I’m really pleased to receive the UKCW Icon Award. It’s encouraging to see facilities professionals recognised as a vital part of the construction and building performance story.
“What is designed and built only truly succeeds when it performs for the people who use and maintain it. Collaboration between construction, engineering and facilities management is what turns good buildings into great ones.”
Also named in the 2025 Role Model awards were Rising Star Virtue Igbokwuwe, Graduate Civil Engineer at Taylor Woodrow and Pioneer Olayemi Usman, Cost & Carbon Consultant at Turner & Townsend.
