Zoono UK, manufacturer of a sanitising product used by Transport for London, has confirmed additional information regarding its previously withdrawn claim that it can “protect surfaces against germs for 30 days.”
A UK Trading Standards regional office in Suffolk raised concerns regarding the claim that the New Zealand company’s Z-71 sanitiser can protect against germs on surfaces for 30 days.
Zoono, in an update on the company website, has confirmed that they will resolve this issue by relabelling their products, using the terms “scientifically proven” and “longer lasting”. They will also include explanations as to how the products can be accurately compared to “traditional” alcohol and bleach-based products.
“It is important to state that these were not misdescription. Highly professional laboratory tests have confirmed that such efficacy and longevity does exist. As will be appreciated, these issues focused rather on whether, unless clarified, some users may become complacent and rely on the full longevity potential without pursuing absolute best practice cleaning protocols as advised by Zoono.”

Zoono Keen to State There was no “Misdescription”
The sanitiser is compliant for use in the UK under the European Standard (EN) testing regime, however, there is no 30-day standard to uphold the business’ claim, which led to the description being withdrawn.
With reference to the 30-day longevity claim, Zoono states that:
“It is important to state that these were not misdescription. Highly professional laboratory tests have confirmed that such efficacy and longevity does exist.
“As will be appreciated, these issues focused rather on whether, unless clarified, some users may become complacent and rely on the full longevity potential without pursuing absolute best practice cleaning protocols as advised by Zoono.”
Zoono has also confirmed that over the coming days and weeks, they will release more information on sanitiser results and case studies.
New Contract with Abbiati Casino Equipment
Zoono has also announced a new partnership with Abbiati Casino Equipment this week.
Abbiati will act on behalf of Zoono to actively promote their products for antimicrobial protection to clients in the gaming, betting, amusement and leisure sectors across UK and Europe.
