VClean Life Targets Traditional Dry Cleaning

12 September 2018

VClean Life, the UK’s first 100% green-cleaning facility has launched a new multi-million pound facility that plans to make traditional “dirty” dry cleaning obsolete.

The business has started in Watford, putting pressure on the dry-cleaning industry’s shift to a future without perchloroethylene (PERC).  The multi-million pound VClean Life hub is the first major facility in the UK to clean clothes with green technology that uses mild, biodegradable detergents and outputs waste water that’s almost pure enough to drink.

This is the first major step in an industry-wide shift towards replacing PERC, the most commonly used dry-cleaning solvent that according to VClean Life, is believed to cause cancer, neurological disorder, kidney and liver damage and is so toxic, it must be buried in containers in waste sites.

The 11,500 square foot facility will act as a gateway to a new green-cleaning revolution.  VClean Life is the brainchild of Nick Harris, who formerly headed up Operations at Aquascutum before founding a uniform and dry-cleaning business in 2001, which has now evolved to become VClean Life.

Nick comments, “Over the many years that we've been in the dry cleaning industry, we realised that convenience and low pricing were critical to business success, but that was at the expense of the environment.  We knew that greener options were available so we brought genuine green cleaning to the masses.

“The laundry sector has remained stagnant for over 50 years and it's time for change. We are the only company in the UK offering entirely 100% environmentally friendly, large scale garment cleaning, which includes recycling water throughout the cleaning process.”

VClean Life, uses ‘wet cleaning’, a process that has in recent years been refined and is far more effective than traditional dry cleaning.
