Name: Matt Bull
Number: 25229541
Service: Army
Regiment: Royal Engineers
Years Served: 6 Years (2006 – 2012)
Current Role: Contracts Manager at Acorn Engineering Group
I joined the army in 2006 after completing a BTEC in public services at college. Joining the Royal engineers, I passed out of basic training to become a Combat Engineer and complete my trade training as a Fitter general later specialising as a fitter machinist.
I served with 39 engineer regiment up until 2012. Although I very much enjoyed my time in the military and service life, I felt new challenges awaited.
Upon deciding to leave the military I used the year from signing off on JPA to prepare myself for the task of slotting back into civilian life. I engaged with training providers to gain the relevant qualifications to enable me to follow my chosen path into the FM world as an AC engineer. During this time, I also began networking with various people within the industry and talking to as many companies I could.
After building a repour with Acorn maintenance I utilised my 6 weeks resettlement to work for Acorn on a trial basis, with a view to gain much needed “real world” experience and hopefully a full time position at the end.
At the end of this trial period I was privileged enough to be offered a full time position at Acorn.
I remained an engineer with Acorn until 2017 where a management opportunity presented itself with another company. Having successfully applied for this role I cut my management teeth over the next two years.
Acorn contacted myself again back in 2019 asking if I would return to Acorn into a space that had opened on the management team. Remembering Acorn as a great place to work and also being the company that gave me my first opportunity coming out of the military I gladly accepted and returned.
Since 2019 I have been back at Acorn working as a Contracts manager looking after a diverse and challenging Portfolio of sites. Looking forward I will be developing my career within Acorn
