Amey has won the hard facilities management contract at the training prison HMP Lowdham Grange in Nottinghamshire.

HMP Lowdham Grange is a Category B prison for male adults aged 21 and over with sentences over four years and at least 12 months to serve. The prison has an operating capacity of 888.

The prison, which was previously managed by contractor Sodexo, was brought under public sector control in May 2024. The facility hit the headlines in July 2024 when it was reported by the Independent Monitoring Board that the prison was “unsafe”, with a shortage of prison officers and six deaths in custody from March 2023 to February 2024.

The existing maintenance team was TUPED when the contract went live in August, and additional vacancies will be filled in the coming weeks.

Amey’s Justice Business Director, Pete Mathieson, said: “We have been a strategic partner to the MoJ for several years and have a unique understanding of what is required to deliver facilities management services within these complex sites.

“HMP Lowdham Grange has a unique set of challenges, and we will be working collaboratively with existing personnel and the prison team to ensure the site is returned to a stable condition.”

Amey provides critical FM services across the justice sector, including at 64 high-profile prison sites.
