British Safety Industry Federation CEO Wins Lifetime Achievement Health & Safety Award

Alan Murray, the CEO of the British Safety Industry Federation, was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Safety & Health Excellence Awards 2025.

The prestigious award was presented to Alan at the VOX Conference Centre in Birmingham, in recognition of his career highlights in the health and safety industry and his leadership of The British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF), where he has been CEO since 2014.

“I was both surprised and humbled in equal measure,” said Alan. “It has been my privilege to serve BSIF and to join such an esteemed list of previous winners of the Safety and Health Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award. I would like to record my thanks to the board of BSIF and to the staff of the federation who, over the years, have given me fantastic support.”

As well as completing two terms as President of the European Safety Federation and becoming Honorary President of Safety Groups UK in 2024, Alan has worked for suppliers such as Scott Safety and Kimberly-Clark during his career. He also spent time at the London Rubber Company, the home of Durex and Marigold brands, where he helped establish the business as a global leader in hand protection.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Alan established links with the government to highlight fake and incorrect supporting documentation for PPE, guiding users to reliable suppliers through the BSIF’s independently audited Registered Safety Supplier Scheme.

Alan is set to retire later in 2025 and will take up the role of Executive Chair of BSIF.

Chair of BSIF, John Gill, said: “Alan has been instrumental in guiding BSIF to the influential position it holds today. His unwavering commitment to safety, integrity, and standards has ensured our members not only thrive but serve the nation with products and services that truly protect lives. His leadership during the COVID PPE crisis was nothing short of remarkable.”

“The Lifetime Achievement Award is a fitting recognition of a career dedicated to making the UK one of the safest places to work in the world.”
