Read Full ArticleOne Bloor West in Toronto has officially become Canada’s first supertall building.
The under-construction skyscraper has reached a height of 300 metres, officially defining it as a supertall building.
It will be the tallest residential building in Canada & the second-tallest man-made structure, next to the CN Tower. Once complete, One Bloor West will stand at 308.6 metres with 85 storeys.
Designed by Foster + Partners, the building will offer 476 condominium suites, world-class retail, and a five-star hotel. The upper floors, which are dedicated to residential space, will feature a pattern of vertical, horizontal, and diagonal framing elements clad in champagne bronze colour.
The residential floors are based on 620-square-foot planning modules, topped by a series of duplex penthouses, accessible via a sky lobby.
Foster + Partners said that the base of One Bloor West would retain the historic brick structures that date back to 1883 – a nod to the Italianate style William Luke Buildings that currently occupy part of the site.
Now that the major construction is complete, developer Tridel says that interior work will begin soon. There is an expected interim occupancy start date of spring 2027 and the building is projected to be completed in early 2028.
“As the first supertall in the country, One Bloor West marks a pivotal moment not just for Toronto, but all of Canada,” said Jim Ritchie, President and CEO of Tridel.
“We are moving into a new era of development, marked by a level of ambition and engineering excellence not previously seen before. We’re proud to be part of the team delivering a new landmark to Toronto’s skyline and look forward to future buildings joining One Bloor West’s supertall status.”
Giles Robinson, Senior Partner with Foster + Partners, added: "Foster + Partners is delighted that One Bloor West has now reached its highest floor and has already become a reference point for Toronto’s unique and distinctive skyline. The building is a remarkable feat of design and engineering and is a testament to the ingenuity and creative collaboration of the design team and contractors.”
