A Tribute To Mark Lopez

A Tribute To Mark Lopez
13 April 2020 | Updated 15 April 2020

It is with great sadness that today, De-Ice announced the loss of their co-founder Mark Lopez – a loving husband to five children, a father, son, colleague and friend.

Mark was born in Peckham, London in July 1960. He passed away at the Royal Papworth Hospital on 2nd April 2020 at the age of 59, sadly losing his battle to COVID-19.

Mark grew up in South East London with his parents and four siblings.  He was a keen football player, playing semi-professionally both at home and abroad.  He had a successful career in money broking during the 80s and 90s working at Sterling Brokers, Cantor Fitz Gerald and Exco.

He met Vicky in 1998 and they married in 2005. The couple worked tirelessly to firstly establish DRP Landscaping and then De-ice Gritting & Snow Clearance – one of the UK’s longest established winter risk management providers.

Committed to his family, his staff and those closest to him, Mark’s qualities were numerous: humility, kindness, determination, humour and loyalty to name a few. His contributions to both the winter gritting and facilities management industries were vast. He was passionate about his work, he was greatly admired, and he was a true friend.

In Vicky’s own words: “Mark was so loved, and he has given me such an amazing life. I will thank him every day that I walk on this earth for that. We are heartbroken, but we will be okay and will continue to live as Mark would have wanted us to.”

A memorial for Mark will be arranged and announced when the current restrictions are lifted.

CEO of ThisWeekinFM Laurence Allen paid tribute to Mark today: “My thoughts are with Vicky and her family at this time, and I would like to express how sorry I am for their loss. Mark was a great guy and well-known in the FM industry. An avid Chelsea FC fan, he liked his boxing and golf too and I always enjoyed a chat with him whenever we bumped into each other.”

We at ThisWeekinFM would ask that the family’s privacy is respected at this time, but if you would like to pay tribute to Mark, the family have asked for charity donations in lieu of flowers to:
