The award is open to managers aged 21-32 working in the workplace and FM sector. The closing deadline is 31 October 2022.
"The individual experience of being able to grow your network, meet and converse with some leading figures in our industry is unforgettable."

Young Facilities Manager Award 2018 Winner
The Pattenmakers is one of the historic Livery Companies of the City of London with its origins dating back to the 14th century. In recent years the Company has become the Livery home of the facilities management industry.
The Company was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1670, but is first recorded as a trade association for the makers of pattens in 1379 and the trade itself dates from the 12th century or earlier. Pattens were wooden-soled overshoes which were helpful to pedestrians negotiating the mire- filled streets of medieval Britain. However, with the advent of paved streets and rubber galoshes, pattens became obsolete by the end of the 19th century.
Because of this history the Company has strong links with the footwear trade and many members come from that industry. Support is given to young footwear designers and the Company’s charitable activities include the funding the design and bespoke fabrication of orthopaedic shoes, particularly for the UK's injured servicemen. Musculoskeletal disorders affect one in four of us, and selecting the right safety footwear can significantly reduce the risk, as we found out from HAIX last year.
However the Company’s membership, which is limited to 250, currently includes around 60 from the facilities management profession and facilities services industry.
There has been a community of facility managers within the Pattenmakers for over 30 years. The emergence of modern-day facilities management in the 1980s coincided with a reduction in the size of the UK footwear industry creating an opportunity for the new profession within the ranks of an ancient company. It is believed that there are more FM people in the Pattenmakers than in any other Livery Company.
The winner of the prestigious Pattenmaker Young Manager Award receives expert support to create a varied and bespoke personal development programme, including off-site courses and a programme of customised work placements designed to broaden their perspective. The training programme will be developed in full consultation with the winner’s line manager or employer. There is also a small financial bursary kindly donated by learning provider International Workplace.
Recent winners have included young facilities managers from Atalian Servest, Salisbury Group, CBRE, Hermes, the British Computer Society (now BCS), and ISS Facility Services.
The Award is customarily presented to the winner by the Lord Mayor of London at the Pattenmakers’ Annual Banquet held at the Mansion House in January each year. The winner will also receive the Freedom of the Company, with the opportunity to apply for the Freedom of the City of London at a later stage.
This is an ideal opportunity to encourage the development of enthusiastic and deserving young people within the FM industry. Employers may nominate more than one young manager from their organisation.
The judges are looking for a young manager who:
Previous winners of the Pattenmakers Young FM Award have benefitted greatly from the opportunities and experience they’ve gained. Wayne Young, winner of the 2018 award, commented:
“The award is not only recognition of my hard work and determination to succeed but also evidence of what can be achieved by other young FM professionals, and I would encourage anybody who is looking to apply to do so. The individual experience of being able to grow your network, meet and converse with some leading figures in our industry is unforgettable. As is being actively involved in the Pattenmakers and experiencing the customs and traditions of the livery. The value you will add back to your business will most definitely be respected.”
Entry is free, and all the information needed to enter the Pattenmakers Young Facilities Manager Award is available online, including a link to the entry form.
