Pareto FM’s Operations Director has been named Inspirational Role Model Of The Year at The Bank of London Rainbow Honours Awards 2024.

The awards recognise individuals and organisations who further LGBTQIA+ equality and inclusion. Colin Kimber is well-known in the FM industry for spearheading initiatives at Pareto FM such as the establishment of the Inclusion Committee, HSEQ Committee, and Environmental Committee.

A former professional dancer, choreographer and teacher, as Pareto’s FM Operations Director, Colin has a pivotal role within the senior executive board and investors board, overseeing operations, managing a turnover of over £45 million and a team of 500 members. He’s also the Co-Chair of LGBT+in FM, a voluntary LGBTQIA+ network for professionals working in FM and the wider built environment.

"My focus has always been to make a difference for others and to fill gaps I experienced as I was growing up and developing my career."

–Colin Kimber

LGBTQIA+ people still face discrimination in the workplace, healthcare settings, education and many other places. According to MIND, one in eight LGBTIQ+ people have experienced unequal treatment from healthcare staff because they are LGBTIQ+. Stonewall’s latest “LGBT in Britain Work Report” shows that a third of LGBTQIA+ staff (35 per cent) have hidden or disguised their identity at work because they were afraid of discrimination.

Colin commented on his award: “To say that I am blown away by this award is an understatement.  My focus has always been to make a difference for others and to fill gaps I experienced as I was growing up and developing my career. Acting as a role model by being my authentic self is my approach and the fact that this has made a difference for people is a reward in itself.  I am hugely appreciative and proud to be recognised in this way.”
