The not-for-profit event promises to connect those who have left the armed forces with valuable contacts in the facilities management, built environment and property sector.
Held at the iconic Churchill War Rooms on Thursday 28th October from 1pm to 5pm, the event is exclusively for those that have left the Armed Forces and seeking a new challenge.
There are a huge number of opportunities for military service leavers within FM. It’s an industry that offers a huge variety of opportunities for ex-military personnel. It also rewards character traits such as discipline, determination and a high level of organisational aptitude.
A number of inspirational speakers will share their experiences of working within the FM and related sectors and show delegates what guidance and support is at hand:

Geoff is an instantly recognisable Leader and Director in the FM industry and is particularly known for actively championing the need for effective maintenance strategies, workable designs and driving improved standards of delivery in the built environment. He has led numerous industry activities, panels, boards, improvement initiatives and is long-standing Chair of Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers - Facilities Management Group.
He has over 40 years of experience in private and public industry, including the banking sector, critical environments, large property portfolios, transport/rail infrastructure, local authorities, district /regional government and the education sector, with particular emphasis in recent years with leading change and business transformation. He is well known for developing people, organisations and industry.
Geoff is also the Chair of ThisWeekinFM Editorial Advisory Board.
Geoff will outline the scope of FM and services within the built environment and discuss areas of opportunity within the sector, for both services personnel and employers. He will also discuss his own experiences involved with supporting and developing people transitioning into FM.
Garrath is a veteran who served for 17 years in the British and Australian Army - a diverse and often challenging career that fortunately allowed him to develop and lead teams around the world in a multitude of roles including peacekeeping, disaster relief, civil support and combat operations.
Since leaving the Army Garrath has utilised the skills learnt in the military to gain commercial experience working with a high-performance training company, in an experiential leadership development consultancy and in one of the oldest and most well respected public schools in the UK.
More recently he has worked in the service charity sector working with veterans and the wider military community to provide support to them finding purposeful employment after their service commitment has concluded.
Garrath will talk about the numerous links to the different areas of FM, giving placement examples and how there is always help and guidance at hand, for both employee and employer.
Mark is a former soldier and security specialist who operated in a number of hostile environments including Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Democratic Republic of Congo to name a few.
Now, Mark is part of the business mentoring programme at Heropreneurs as well as the founder of PestGone Environmental, a London-based pest control company. The company is young but has grown significantly with their customers including members of the royal family, as well working in partnership with the London Port of Authority to keep the River Thames free from deceased animals.
His vision is to help improve the safety standards in the pest control industry whilst supporting sustainable charity projects around the globe.
Mark will speak about how to start your own business and the adjustment to being your own boss.
The event is sponsored by Acorn Engineering.
